Citizens Advisory

Citizens Advisory

The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) comprises fifteen (15) residents from diverse backgrounds across Clark County, united by their keen interest in addressing social service issues within the community. CAC members actively contribute insights to the Clark County Department of Social Service on various human services, encompassing, but not restricted to, concerns like homelessness, senior services, and HIV/AIDS.

Prospective CAC members should embody the following qualities:

  • A commitment to actively enhance their community
  • Personal experience of past homelessness or current exposure to homelessness
  • Residency within Clark County for the preceding 5 years
  • Ability to attend the committee's bi-monthly meetings
  • Willingness to engage actively and provide constructive feedback during the group's sessions

Membership acceptance is at the discretion of the Department of Social Service and involves the submission of an application, completion of an Advisory Committee orientation, and agreement to the group's Bylaws, which includes adherence to attendance expectations. Notification of membership acceptance or non-acceptance is conveyed via email to the provided address.

Terms of service span one, two, or three years, with five members appointed for each duration. Committee members serve at the discretion of the board during their respective appointments. Subsequent appointments are for three years, and upon term expiration, members may express interest in rejoining. However, priority is given to individuals who have not previously participated. Terms are staggered to maintain a balance of experienced members within the group.

The purpose of this Community Advisory Committee is:

  • To identify and communicate to the department important social service issues and service requirements regarding client services.
  • To assist in assessing needs of the community.
  • To initiate proposals to be forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners as recommendations for action.
